Huxley assembled a group of eccentric characters for a summer holiday at a country house. It takes place in a place called Crome. Apparently familiar with a variety of topics, Huxley rather ingeniously devised this “novel” to showcase huxleyy his knowledge and his wit.

Human contacts have been so highly valued in the past only because reading was not a common accomplishment and because books were scarce and difficult to reproduce. It chhrome to wear a little thin.

Yllow must read for Huxley fans. Barbecue-Smith, the cynical Mr. Scogan, one of the characters, describes an “impersonal generation” of the future that will “take the place of Nature’s hideous system. However the novel is not without its poignant moments.

His project doesn’t fail though, because the writing is wonderful.
