I cannot agree more with reviewer Barbara Gordon’s statement that “this book moves at a dead run. Half World does not cheap out on how broken and seemingly irredeemable people can get, nor on how awful these wprld can make the world.
This is sorely lacking!

Instead it paints everything in Half World in shapes of muted gray like it was on purpose or somethingmaking the characters there less able to act morally because of their pain, wkrld their selfishness and vanity and fear much more understandable. Darkest Light was definitely more creepy. Bramble rated it really liked it Sep 12, Dec 12, Christian Hendriks rated it really liked it Shelves: It was an extremely quick read.
I felt like the author’s voice shifted too frequently from dark to dramatic to comedic to melodramatic. This book was everything I hoped for and more.

This is a sequel to Half Worldand picks up sixteen years after the end of the previous novel. Melanie Tamaki is 14 years old, on the “slow-learner” track in school, bullied by classmates, strangely loved by crows, and coping with a mother who is constantly sick and can’t keep a job. She was not afraid to kick some serious butt and to tell it like she sees it.
My utmost thanks to the Author, the Publisher, and Goodreads for giving me the chance to read and review this free book. Melanie could hear the sound of champagne being poured into tall glasses, the individual bubbles popping, distinct, like microscopic musical notes. As it turns out, her mother has not been taken somewhere unknown, but has been taken back to where she came from, a place called Half World.

For example anyone read about homicidal cannibal children? It looked like every city halff period in time were mashed together again, so so so so much potential.
I was really thrilled to be hwlf in public with this one. But the young fourteen-year-old has more of these qualities than she realizes, and that is part of what makes this a great coming-of-age story for teen readers. Her mother is unable to keep a job, and has recently started drinking, so school?
Some become monsters as a result, and the monster that rules them all is Mr. Wei she for through the door and into Half World. Checked it out of the library. It was so good to be still.

That’s because her actions and thoughts do not fit the description of her, when compared to the ones at the beginning of the book before she enters Half World That’s not to say there weren’t helpful magicks and deus ex machinas in this book – there were hiromii few – but ultimately she is just a young mortal, struggling along like the rest of us, hoping to catch a break.
But there’s no doubt around the fact that Half World would make a great Fantasy Film with its Alice in Wonderland, but gorier, type whimsy.
