Newer isn’t necessarily better, and familiarity counts for a whole lot. They make movies sound awesome! Unless you need a bigger one, in which case you’ll probably just get another one and run them in bridged mode. They’re passive, so I have an Alesis RA amp running them with a balanced signal from my interface.

Are you dissatisfied with the mixes you’re getting out of them? You can find cheaper stuff, but I like buying quality things that last even if I have to wait for them.

I have a set that I’m using as my main monitors and I’m just not sure how imperative it is that I upgrade. By the time you wear out cheap ones you’ve already paid for a good one, you know? I would add that you’re not going to see any super improvements in mid range gear, if you want to get monitors save up and get something really good. I think you’re absolutely right though, the best plan 420 to add a second pair in time and not replace these outright, risking screwing myself.

They’re a bit bottom heavy so the pair I had are currently on the tv behind the bar with an old TEAC amp. I am definitely still happy with them and my mixes hold up well against similar mixes on newer equipment. Any input is appreciated.

My monitors are each 8 ohm, so it looks like w 8ohm per side for the X JBL reference monitors self. I’ve found reviews of them from around the time of their release and they seemed to get decent praise. Get one of these and you’ll never need to buy another reference amp again. If you sense any issues or 4260 have some time on your hands you may want to take apart the amp and monitors and clean them up with high percentage isopropyl alcohol and contact cleaner I’d definitely hit up the pots and check any soldered parts.

If you jjbl them and are happy jbk them, I wouldn’t rush to replace them – on the contrary, proceed with caution, as you could easily end up worse off than you started. Even a manufacturer you could recommend would be great. I never thought of the X series Crown stuff. The other conflict I’ve found with older gear in a newer setup is interference from USB cables and such so wires with good shielding are a must.
